Fred Abbott

CHAIRMAN

  • Fred Abbott is an esteemed veteran of the aviation industry with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. Fred brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role as a board member having served in senior officer roles at 2 fortune 100 companies (United Airlines and Continental Airlines) with predecessor continuity that dates to 1982 (People Express/Continental/United). In addition to his officer roles at large public companies, Fred has taken active advisory and board roles in successful startup ventures as well as middle market companies. Most recently, Fred served as a Manager of the General Partner for Buffington Home Building Group Ltd., a $150mm per year homebuilding and real estate development firm, where his strategic insight and management acumen played a pivotal role in guiding the company to a highly profitable position after the death of the Company’s namesake founder, uniting a fractured shareholder group and actively participating in the successful sale of the Company to LGI Homes at a significant MOIC for the stakeholders. Prior to his tenure at Buffington Home Building, Fred served as an officer of United Airlines, where he served as Senior Vice President of Flight Operations. In this capacity, Fred oversaw a pilot workforce of over 10,000 professionals and had the overall responsibility of merging two vastly different pilot cultures and complex flight operations to successfully form the largest airline in the world. Fred was responsible for all critical areas of airline flight operations including, domestic and international ops procedure, pilot training and standardization, flight safety, fleet provisioning, as well as all labor contract negotiations and union relations, which utilized his leadership ability and ability to manage complex operations and contributed to the overall success of the airline. Fred's aviation journey began after graduating with a BS in Journalism from the University of Kansas in 1970. He embarked on a career as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, serving as a pilot for fourteen years on active duty and in the Air Force Reserves and achieving a rank of Captain. Fred's passion for aviation led him to join Trans World Airways in 1975, where he initially served as a pilot instructor. He continued to excel and transitioned into airline management, assuming the role of manager in pilot training at Air Berlin. Fred's expertise and dedication became evident when he played a crucial part in the start-up of People Express Airlines, serving as a managing officer during the airline's inception. He continued to make significant contributions when People Express merged with Continental Airlines, where he served as Chief Pilot and later as Vice President of Flight Operations for 18 years until the company’s merger with United Airlines. Throughout his career, Fred Abbott maintained a unique distinction by actively flying as a line qualified pilot, underscoring his commitment to hands-on experience, and staying connected to the core operations of the industry. This comprehensive perspective has shaped his strategic decision-making and leadership abilities. Fred resides in Magnolia, Texas on his beloved horse farm and is an active patron of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, LA and the Blue Angels Foundation in Pensacola, FL.

Dr. Richard Ha

  • Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute

    Richard Ha, MD is a practicing plastic surgeon in Dallas, TX. From 2010 through 2018, he served as president and managing partner of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, one of the largest single specialty plastic surgery groups in the country. He continues to serve on the executive committee at DPSI as well as on the board of directors of Live Oak Surgery Center in Plano, TX. He has served on the board of Pine Creek Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Ha has strong ties to industry partners with device and implant companies, serving as a consultant or on scientific advisory boards, including Mentor Corp (Johnson and Johnson), Sientra, Allergan, Synthes, and KLS-Martin. He serves on numerous committees with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Ha received his bachelor’s degree in biology and economics from Brown University, and his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery and plastic surgery at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. He also completed a craniofacial fellowship at the same institution. Patrick Ha is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Gerardo King

  • Managing Partner, Tamesis

    Gerardo is a well-seasoned investment banker with over 20 years of experience across various divisions of world class financial institutions. He began his career at Citigroup, in the top tier corporate, mining and resource industries group as a Management Associate, participating in the most relevant deals in the Andean Region while leading a transaction execution team by his departure. In 2004 he joined Standard Bank as a Vice President for Resource Banking, closing the first staple oil and gas syndication in the Latam region for the bank. Later he evolved to become the lead deal originator for the Americas. In 2008 he joined Morgan Stanley to head and develop its Investment Banking franchise across the southern cone of the Americas, including the Andean region. During his tenure as an Executive Director, Gerardo poised Morgan Stanley as a leader in the primary league tables for the first time in the American emerging markets history. This resulted in the opening the bank’s representative office in Peru in 2011 which provided pivotal support to the region. He was the protagonist for the origination and execution of first time issuers in the mining, energy and oil and gas industries, establishing a robust presence for Morgan Stanley. This led him to become an integral member of the bank's operating committee for the Americas being nominated to Managing Director in 2015. In 2016 he founded Tamesis, a multi-disciplinary boutique investment bank with partnerships across the globe. With a strong focus in private markets, asset curation and its take-out to public markets, he has gained a wealth of experience with asset managers world wide. He is also the principal as an investor in the Peru Forest Impact Fund, a USD200MM reforestation effort primarily funded by institutional liquidity and operated by a world-class asset manager. Gerardo’s skill sets range across business development, corporate finance, M&A advisory, debt and equity capital market and commodities. He has over USD25BN of origination and structuring experience across debt and capital markets placements, playing a dynamic role determining price and market for most of the transactions in which he has participated. He has wide access to executive management in top tier corporations and institutions and fluid relationships with regulators and governmental entities and holds an outstanding reputation across the institutional investor community including pension funds, insurance companies, investment fund managers, family offices, broker-dealers and banks.

Tom H. McCasland

  • President, Mack Energy Co.

    Tom H. McCasland, III is President of Mack Energy Co. Tom joined Mack Energy Co. in 1984 in the Land Department and became President in 1996. He is on the board of Mack Energy Co., Investors Trust Company, Enerwest Trading Company, McCasland Foundation and BancFirst Corporation. Tom currently serves as Chairman of the Oklahoma Energy Producers Alliance and on the board of the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma. He is past board member of the Oklahoma Independent Producers Association and the University of Oklahoma Foundation. McCasland has a BBA in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Oklahoma (1981) and an MBA from Southern Methodist University (1983). He offices in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Rosser C. Newton, Sr.

  • Rosser C. Newton, Sr. has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry. He has served as a banker as well as a principal investor to E&P companies and energy services companies. He is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eagleridge Energy (a Barnett Shale E&P company), Nitrolift Holdings (an energy services company) and SES (an equipment services company). Rosser began his career in the energy investment banking group at Goldman, Sachs as an investment banking analyst. After law school he worked as a securities lawyer at Vinson & Elkins until returning to investment banking with the energy investment banking group of Merrill Lynch in Houston. Rosser founded Petro Capital Group in 2002, a principal investment and investment banking firm, where he completed over $5b of advisory transactions and invested over $400mm in lower middle market oil and gas investment opportunities. He is the author of a biography on former Texas Governor Richard Coke entitled Richard Coke: Texan that is currently out for publishers, as well as a self- published book of poetry entitled Reflections. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vanderbilt University, and a graduate of The University of Texas School of Law.

Mark Paull

  • Chief Executive Officer, Peak 10 Energy

    Mr. Paull serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Peak 10 Energy Management, LLC. Prior to founding Peak 10 Energy, he managed the upstream technical team for Guggenheim Securities. Mr. Paull previously held the position of Global Head of A&D at Credit Suisse Securities and U.S. Head of A&D for Goldman Sachs. Additionally, he has over 27 years of leadership in various engineering, operations, and business development roles at Quantum Resources Management, Devon Energy, Ocean Energy, and Kerr-McGee Corporation. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Oklahoma.

Patrick Starley

  • Managing Partner, Legacy Star Capital Partners

    Patrick Starley has 21 years of principal level investment experience consisting of over $950 million dollars of debt and equity transactions in real estate, oil and gas, and private equity projects and investments. Prior to co-founding Legacy Star Capital Partners, Patrick was a principal and CEO of Cielo Private Equity, which he cofounded with affiliates of Todd Stoller in 2013. Cielo focused on private debt and equity opportunities in energy, real estate, specialty finance, and technology. Under Starley’s guidance, Cielo made 5 investments totaling over $37 million in committed and invested capital, resulting in one fully- realized investment and four partially-realized and ongoing investments. Before his success at Cielo, Patrick served as Chief Executive Officer of Buffington Capital Holdings, a Texas based real estate investment firm that he co-founded in 2001 and grew to one of the largest real estate development and investment firms in Central Texas, holding assets with a fully developed value of over $1.2 billion. In 2007, Patrick co-founded and led the capitalization efforts of an affiliated homebuilding business (Buffington Homes), assisting its growth to over 200 units and $50 million per year in revenue. Patrick serves on the Executive Council of the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at the University of Texas, The University of Texas 1883 Council, The Executive Committee of the University of Texas System's Chancellor's Council, and the Advisory Board for the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Patrick holds a B.A. degree from The University of Texas at Austin.

Todd Stoller

  • Managing Partner, Legacy Star Capital Partners

    Prior to co-founding Legacy Star Capital Partners, Todd Stoller served as a Senior Vice President at Remington Hotels, a large, independent hotel project and property management company based in Dallas, Texas. During his tenure with Remington, Todd furthered the company’s initiatives to design, develop, build and operate luxury resort properties, oversaw half of the renovation and development initiatives at approximately 140 hotels with a combined capex budget totaling in excess of $500 million over the prior three years, and served as Remington’s corporate counsel focusing on the management of complex litigation, commercial transactions and labor contract negotiations. Before joining Remington, he was the President and General Counsel for a social-media company in Austin, Texas where he was responsible for the daily management, strategic vision, deal origination and legal strategies for the company. Prior to operating his company, Todd was engaged in the private practice of law specializing in complex commercial litigation involving broad range of commercial actions, including real estate, construction, surety, class action, securities, business tort, bankruptcy and intellectual property. Todd holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and a Juris Doctor Degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law.
